According to eyewitnesses, the student had presented his final-year project, an architectural model that showcased creativity and innovation, when the lecturer challenged the authenticity of the work. The lecturer allegedly claimed that the design was “too good” to have been created by the student and then proceeded to damage the project in anger.
The incident has since gone viral on social media, sparking outrage among students and netizens who have described the act as “academic bullying” and “an abuse of power.” One student witness stated, “The guy worked on that project for months. Seeing his effort destroyed like that was heartbreaking. Even if the lecturer doubted him, there are better ways to verify.”
Meanwhile, there are increasing calls for the school management to investigate the lecturer’s actions and to ensure fairness for the affected student. Many Nigerians on social media have also demanded reforms in the way lecturers handle student assessments, citing this incident as another example of a toxic academic culture in some institutions.
